Get the FACS!
Hello! My name is Jamie Lutz and I am a Family & Consumer Sciences from Wisconsin and I am going on my 13th year of teaching. My students complete two years of the National Restaurant Association ProStart curriculum, ProStart Culinary & Management competitions, and many hands on labs and catering events. My students have the opportunity to earn free college credits while still attending high school through several of the courses I teach as an adjunct professor through Gateway Technical College, located in Southeastern Wisconsin. I recently switched schools and am now the ProStart/Culinary teacher for Badger High School, in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, which is well known for its hospitality & tourism industry. I love inspiring students through hands-on learning and creating meaningful life experiences through the connections that food, family, & hospitality can bring. Whether my students are in my class to pursue a career in the hospitality industry, expand their own personal cooking skills, or wanting to learn more about life beyond high school, I want each of them to achieve personal greatness.
ProStart
In the NRAEF ProStart Level 1 & 2 courses I teach student can earn college credits through the local technical college in ServSafe, Intro to Service, Culinary, as well as earn their ProStart National Certificates. They also have the chance to compete in the ProStart Culinary & Management competitions.
Catering
As part of the ProStart curriculum in Culinary 1 & 2, students have the opportunity to complete various catering events in the Lake Geneva community. Recently we had the wonderful opportunity to help cater the food for the crews and artists of Farm Aid! My students made 120 dozen cookies in 1 day for Farm Aid and we worked the event for two days! Although a lot of hard work, most of my students say they enjoy the catering events the best!
Foods 1 & 2
Foods 1 & 2 are the introductory courses we offer at Badger High School. Students learn basic safety & sanitation, kitchen terminology, and various culinary topics such as baked goods, dairy, meats, fruits, & vegetables, and regional/ethnic cuisine. After taking Foods students may apply to enter our Culinary 1 & 2 program.

Personal Bio
I am a wife and mother of 2 wonderful kids, 3 and 5 years old. I have worked various jobs in the restaurant industry since I was 15 years old, and decided to pursue my Family & Consumer Sciences Education degree from UW-Stout,so I could share my passion for the restaurant and hospitality career path. I love inspiring students to pursue a career in the hospitality field and decided to further my education by pursuing a Master of Hospitality Administration degree. Every course I have taken so far has helped me become a better teacher and enriched my curriculum for my high school students. I am looking forward to what I can learn from this course and my fellow classmates to help me grow even further.
Hobbies
I enjoy baking and cooking delicious foods at home, attending culinary courses during the summer at local technical colleges to expand my culinary knowledge, growing a garden every summer and then canning the homegrown goodness. I also enjoy sewing (made a Halloween cow costume for my daughter) and quilting. My summers I spend time being a stay-at-home mom with my kids. I love baking and decorating my children's birthday cakes as well.
